Job Title
Software Engineer, Infrastructure
Location
San Francisco, CA. On-site 4 days per week. Full-time.
Company Description
Blockit is a Sequoia-backed AI scheduling agent. CC it on any email or Slack thread and it negotiates the times, handles the time zones, and sends the invite. Customers include teams at Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures, Accel, Thrive Capital, Ramp, Vanta, Clay, and Granola. Founded by a former Sequoia partner and covered by TechCrunch and Sequoia in January 2026. While every LLM application to date has been a one-on-one conversation, Blockit is one of the first multiplayer, stateful AI agents: it coordinates between multiple people, keeps context across conversations, and takes real actions in the world. As more people connect their calendars, the network gets exponentially more powerful.
The Role
Think of this as a product engineering role where the product is everything underneath. For a stateful, multiplayer AI agent that takes real actions in the world, infrastructure is the user experience: a meeting scheduled in 800ms instead of 4 seconds, an email that never gets dropped, an agent that recovers gracefully from a flaky third-party API. The role spans three connected areas: infrastructure users can feel (PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, async jobs, LLM gateway, email), observability and on-call, and developer experience for one of the most AI-native engineering teams in the Valley.
What You'll Do
-
Own and evolve core data infrastructure (PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, async pipelines), measured in user-facing terms like p95 scheduling latency and delivery reliability
-
Own observability end-to-end: metrics, logs, traces, alerting, dashboards, and the on-call rotation
-
Run the LLM infrastructure (gateway, eval pipelines, agent observability) for reliability, performance, and cost
-
Make and ship the build-vs-buy and migration calls: queues, email providers, Redis or Kafka when the time is right
-
Shape how engineers work with AI day to day: Claude Code conventions, agent tooling, sandboxes, eval harnesses
-
Own deploys, environments, capacity planning, and infra cost
Who You Are
-
4+ years of software engineering, with significant time on backend or infrastructure
-
Deep with databases: you read query plans and know when to fix the query, the schema, or the architecture
-
You have run production services and carried the pager
-
Opinions on job queues, async processing, and event-driven systems
-
Product sensibility: you reach for user-facing metrics first
-
Pragmatic about build vs. buy
Why Join
-
Own the foundation of a platform built to coordinate millions of calendars
-
Tiny, senior team backed by Sequoia; every customer so far came inbound
-
Work in person in San Francisco with people who ship daily
